Chris Bunney Featured in 26th Annual National Juried Competition and Exhibition at the Long Beach Island Foundation
511 Gallery is thrilled to announce that Chris Bunney, who is represented by the gallery, was selected to showcase his original silver halide emulsion print Baleen in Works on Paper 2024, the 26th Annual National Juried Competition and Exhibition at the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts & Sciences in Loveladies, New Jersey. This exhibition was juried by Kim Conaty, Chief Curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art, and featured 63 artists from across 23 states.
Bunney’s photograph Baleen is a large black-and-white unique print of the gypsum dune fields of White Sands National Park. The photograph pictures a dune inclining upward toward the top right corner of the composition. Etched into the sand’s surface are distinct linear ripples formed by the wind that flow to the bottom of the image. Superimposed on the print is a hazy overlay of scattered black dots, dappled highlights, and long shadowed tendrils. These marks are evidence of Bunney’s tactile darkroom process, where he uses various chemical baths to wash each 35mm negative.
This print will be featured in the upcoming 511 Gallery exhibition white sands: Photographs by Chris Bunney, alongside nine other original photographs that explore the surreal landscapes of White Sands.
