David Gaither Awarded Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant

511 Gallery is excited to announce that David Gaither has been awarded a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant, which supports artists' living and working expenses for one year. 

David Gaither is a self-taught, Georgia-based artist who uses mixed media and collage in bold colors to create images that combine geometric abstraction, landscape, and figurative shapes in tapestry-like design. He often works in triptychs, tondos, or other custom geometric-shaped canvases.

The Pollock-Krasner Foundation was founded in 1985 through the generosity of the late Lee Krasner, a leading abstract expressionist painter and widow of Jackson Pollock. The sole purpose was to provide financial assistance to working artists with proven ability and commitment to professional art-making. Since 1985, the Foundation has awarded over 4,400 grants totaling over 71 million dollars to artists in 77 countries.

Pollock-Krasner grants have enabled artists to create new work, purchase needed materials and pay for studio rent, as well as their personal and medical expenses. Past recipients of Pollock-Krasner grants acknowledge their critical impact in allowing concentrated time for studio work, and in preparing for exhibitions and other professional opportunities such as accepting a residency.
