511 PROJECTS TO REPRESENT THE ESTATE OF YVONNE PÈNE DU BOIS MCKENNEY, ARTWORKS BY GUY PÈNE DU BOIS.

511 Gallery and 511 Projects is pleased to announce it now represents the Estate of Yvonne Pène du Bois McKenney, artworks by her father, Guy Pène du Bois (1884-1958), the twentieth- century American Modernist painter and drawing artist. Numbering over 300, the paintings and works on paper in the collection include fully-realized portraits, figurative group scenes, landscapes (in France and America) and interiors from the major years of Pène du Bois’s practice – 1920 to 1953.  Included also are studies and pages from the artist’s sketchbooks.

Mara Miller, Director of 511, noted the new representation: “We are excited by this project. Guy Pène du Bois’s paintings and drawings are displayed in many major American museum collections, and our goal is to grow that museum presence – both here and abroad – in a considered approach that identifies where these exceptional works might be placed so as to be most relevant to the mission and interests of each institution.  We approach private and corporate collectors with the similar specific and well-reasoned proposals for acquisition.  As F. Scott Fitzgerald captured in writing the social lives of Americans in the decades of the twenties and thirties, so did Guy Pène du Bois in visual art – masterfully using fine lines and rich color to make real and often heartfelt the economic, social, and cultural contexts within which Americans moved.”
