Work in Progress: Jennifer Odem's Rising Tables for Prospect.4 New Orleans

Jennifer Odem has begun work on her site-specific sculpture, Rising Tables, for Prospect.4 New Orleans, The Lotus in Spite of the Swamp, the city's contemporary arts exhibition. Prospect.4 includes the work of 73 international, national, and regional artists, and Odem, a New Orleans-native, is of twelve artists commissioned to install a site-specific work.

The sculpture is being installed on the Crescent Park riverbank of the Mississippi River and will consist of several tables stacked on top of one another. The tables vary in material, style, and size, with the largest table placed at the base, gradually decreasing in size while rising in height. The work alludes to the displacement of lives and property caused by flooding in New Orleans and explores the relationship between the domestic, the natural, the personal, and the all-encompassing.

Prospect.4 New Orleans opens November 18, 2017 and is on view until February 25, 2018. More information about the exhibition can be found at https://www.prospectneworleans.org/.
